My senior cat is acting crazy and destructive, is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 15 years and 11 months old

I have a senior (15) kitty and I'm not sure if some of his behavior is normal. Sometimes, all though a little more frequently lately, he kinda just goes crazy for no reason. He'll run around my room, clawing at everything, jumping on and off my bed rapidly and tearing at my comforter. I don't give catnip and he's not chasing anything. This concerns me especially because of how typically calm and reserved he is even when playing. Please let me know if this normal for cats to do (he is my first).

PooR Thomas. This does sound quite strange. He could be suffering from dementia or even a seizure or neurological activity. Cats are weird because they don't always have the same type of seizure as you would think they should with convulsions. I would have your vet take a look at him to see if there is anything else that could be causing the behavior. They may be able to start him on an anti-anxiety medicine to help calm him and help him act more normal. I hope this helps !
