Does Parvo in puppies cause long-term behavior or development issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mountain Cur | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 50 lbs

My dog had Parvo when she was a puppy. She’s very anxious all of the time, she gets into everything, she climbs on cars, and barks constantly at little things. We had a dog that passed away at 14 years old (longer than her life expectancy) and she was the EXACT same way. She too had Parvo when she was a puppy. Does Parvo mentally (and physically) stunt growth? Macie has the maturity of a toddler and so did our other dog that passed away. But another dog we have (never had Parvo) is so good!?

I have never heard this being the case and I have never read any studies that have revealed this. I would be more worried that all the attention they both received during their illness since treating parvo can be labor intensive and they end up spending a lot of time with humans during that time, could have caused this behavior. Sorry I wish I had a better answer for you. She is quite the beauty though.
