Is my spayed rabbit's open incision an emergency if the vet is closed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed

Hello, my female rabbit has been spayed a week and a half ago.she wears a body suit but constantly takes it off. When I checked her woind now it looks like it's a bit open (I attach photos). There is no bleeding and she seems fine (no pain). Can you please advise? The vet is closed. Can it wait until tomorrow? Thanks, Natalia

Hello. Your picture is a little far to see details, but if the skin is just gapped a bit, I would not be too concerned. Is she chewing at the incision? You might do better putting an Elizabethan collar on her ( like one made for cats ). If she is scratching with a hind foot, just keep putting the body suit back on. It will be fine until your vet can look at things tomorrow. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
