My dog takes cyclosporine for IBD. Can she also take clindamycin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog has been on cyclosporine to manage her IBD and needs to take Clindamycin for a few days following a dental procedure. Is it okay to give these two medications one after the other? Are there any interactions? How many hours should I space them apart?

These should be fine to be given together. The drug formulary only reports that these two drugs given could decrease the concentration of the cyclosporine in the blood therefore not allowing it to be as effective. Depending on how severe her IBD is, you may want to discuss with your vet whether this is okay for her to take both. I would not adjust your cyclosporine dose without talking to your vet first.
