My dog ate Panadol. Is Paracetamol toxic to dogs? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1lb

I am looking after my friends dog (She is a mixed breed puppy about 5 months old) pretty sure she is half Italian greyhound. I came home and found a packet of panadol 500mg on the floor chewed up. It had 3 pills missing but I dont know if there were any used before or if it was a full packet. The remains of at least one pill was in bits on the floor so maximum she could have had was 2 x 500mg. They are panadol cold and flew tablets. I am unable to go to a vet as it's midnight and I'm in Bali.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Panadol (Paracetamol) can be very toxic at high doses for dogs. At more than 50mg/kg (for a 10kg dog this would be 500mg) it can cause eye trouble, and at 100mg/kg (for a 10kg dog this would be 1000mg) it can cause severe liver disease, kidney disease, and problems with the red blood cells. It sounds like the dose that Indy might have ingested could be very serious. I recommend trying to find a vet that is open and having Indy seen right away. Sunset Vet is a 24 hour vet in Bali. +62 361 9348915 I recommend going right away as you want to make her vomit as soon as possible. The vet will also likely recommend bloodwork, and IV fluids and hospitalization. Best of luck with Indy!
