Is it okay if my picky cat only eats one type of food and rejects new?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 months and 15 days old | 7.94 lbs

Coco refuses to try new food at all. She always needs her kibbles and brand specific wet food in shape of small slices. Anything different will be rejected. She smells the package with excitement but once served she smells the food looks at me and then walk off! How to get her to try new food? I tried giving a little quantity mixed with her regular food, she skipped her meal! Please help!

Hi there. If Coco is doing well on her current diet, there's really no need for her to try new foods - cats don't need variety in their diets, as long as the food she's currently eating is nutritionally balanced. So I would recommend just feeding her what she's currently eating, if she likes that :)
