How to stop my puppy from drinking his urine on indoor potty pads?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 28 days old | 10 lbs

Pep keeps drinking his urine when he urinates on his wee wee pad or on the floor. He does not do it when we do take him outside. What can we do to make him stop?

He's probably trying to keep the area clean. You may want to look into getting a raised area for him to urinate if you are going to continue to use potty pads indoors: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/the-pet-loo-indoor-yard-training-system-for-dogs-and-cats
