My cat ate a crumb of cupcake with xylitol. Is it dangerous?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 9.5 lbs

I THINK my cat ate a small crumb of cupcake which has xylitol in it! It’s been over 30mins and she seems to have normal activity level, but is it enough to hurt her?? It was maybe the size of half a small sized cat treat. Or smaller.

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Kiara. Xylitol toxicity occurs between 15-30 minutes after ingestion, and if it's been over 30 minutes and she is fine, she may not have eaten it. Either that, or the bit she ate was not big enough to cause any problems. I'd keep an eye on her for now, but if she is fine by tomorrow morning, there will be no need to worry. I hope this helps.
