My kitten's eyes are shut with white film and yellow discharge. What to do?

My kitten is 18 days old and both eyes are shut in one eye it is like a white coating and in the next eye is is not open and a yellow line is there in the place of eye what should I do?

This is likely to be a due to a viral and bacterial infection of the eye, which would require immediate check up as antibiotics are immediately needed. These type of ocular infections can result in corneal damage and possibly perforations if not treated quite rapidly.

    This kitten is suffering from an eye infection, it's very common in stray kittens and many of them lose their eyes to this disease if left untreated. fortunately the treatment is quite simple, take him to the vet ASAP and your vet will prescribe antibiotic eye ointment for him, this will solve the problem within a couple weeks.

Your kitty likely is suffering from an upper respiratory infection and should be seen by a vet for an exam and deworming. It will likely need prescription antibiotics. In the meantime (until you can take her to a vet) you can tak a cloth with warm water an soak the eyes. This should help with opening them. You can then gently wipe off the purulent discharge.

Your kitten possibly has a little infection. I would carefully wipe off the discharge and observe the eye. If he keeps squinting or has more of that yellow discharge, and / or sneezes then you should have him examined by your vet. It also may be a good idea to have him vaccinated and wormed.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. These kittens have an infection around their eyes, and especially at such a young age infections can lead to loss of sight. I recommend you have them into a vet right away to get some eye medication for them. You will likely need an antibiotic, and therefore will require a prescription, so you need to take them to a vet. If you can't get to a vet right away, use natural tears (human product is ok, just make sure no medications are present and it is just natural tears), and apply this 4-6 times a day to keep the eye lubricated. This will try to prevent an ulcer which can lead to more complications with sight. Best of luck with the little ones!

Hi, there's been a few stray kittens hanging around my house and there's one in particular with messed up eyes. I believe he's completely blind in them, I've gained his trust and he lets me pet him now but I haven't seen a mother cat around at all so
Those eyes appear to be severely infected. This cat requires veterinary attention immediately. Once the surfaces are cleaned, it may be possible to assess the eyes themselves. It is possible he may lose or has lost vision already.

Keep in mind that some of these infections could be contagious if that is the case with him so it would be best to proceed as soon as possible with visit to a veterinarian and to try to keep him separate from the rest of the kittens until then. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. It's definitely not normal but it is a common condition in young cats, it's an eye infection that needs to be treated with antibiotic eye ointment (teramycin). this infection often involve an upper respiratory infection as well which needs to be treated with oral antibiotics. i strongly recommend that you take him to the vet ASAP, without treatment it's very likely that he will end up blind.

Kitten eyes are blind and blurry white and she can't see
Hello. This kitten has severe infection in both eyes. This requires IMMEDIATE veterinary attention if there is any chance of salvaging her eyes. She may have poor or no vision no matter what is done, but without medical intervention, it is likely that she will have to lose both eyes. She should be examined immediately and once evaluated, treatment can be started which will probably be a combination of oral and topical antibiotics. She may need to see a veterinary eye specialist if she does not start to improve, or she may need to have the eyes surgically removed. Hopefully, with immediate attention, she can improve. Please take her to your veterinarian or closest emergency clinic right away.

It is possible Zen may have an infection or injury , especially in the right eye. Ideally, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose and treat it. Your veterinarian will use a special stain to check for corneal scratches or ulcers. An antibiotic ointment may be dispensed after. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent pawing or rubbing until he sees the vet.

Many shelter kittens are exposed to various bacteria and viruses, and upper respiratory infections are common. I recommend that you help Nesquick keep the eye clean by using a warm wet wash cloth to gently wipe away the discharge. If the eyelids or conjunctiva appears swollen, then he should be checked out by a vet. Some viral infections of the eye can lead to blindness. Since most of these infections are viral, they will need time to run their course. Antibiotics may be used even with primary viral infections to make sure that we are helping the body fight off any secondary bacterial invaders. I would make sure that Nesquick sees a vet if he has a poor appetite, is progressively lethargic, or has a rectal temperature over 103.
