Dog chewed outside, now has skin infection. How to treat and prevent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old

It appeared 2 days ago, when I go to work I usually leave my dog outside, and when I get home its a mess in the backyard(I'm guessing he gets mad for leaving him outside long), so I guess its something he chewed on like a stick or firewood(there medium-sized with little branches sticking out)? What is this, how can I treat them, and prevent it from happening again?

This looks like he has developed an infection in his skin folds from either an abrasion from chewing or from his saliva. You can try to gently clean the areas with mild soap and water and apply Neosporin on the areas twice a day. If it isn't improving, I would have your vet take a look at it. They may put him on some oral antibiotics or oral antifungals if yeast is present. I would also consider starting to put him in a kennel or enclosure when you leave to help protect him and prevent him from tearing up your backyard. I hope this helps!
