Why do my cat's chronic ear scabs only respond to steroid shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 12 years and 11 months old | 14 lbs

Cat has scabs forming on ear. 6 months on and off. Only steroid shots clear it no meds or ointments work. Blood work clear and fungus test clear. Any ideas? Seeing second opinion!

Hi. This looks pretty severe, and it sounds like you have done alot. This could be allergies, food sensitivities, immune mediated skin disease, or more. Since you have been battling this and not much is working, i would recommend seeing a veterinary dermatologist as your second opinion. this would be the most helpful
