My puppy has bad diarrhea after deworming. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 1 day old

I have a 9-10 week old great pyrenees. I took him to get his first round shots, worming meds, and heart worm pill. It has been 1 1/2 weeks since his first round of worm meds. He keeps having diarrhea. It is runny, soft, and smells horrible. Im trying to house train him but he cant control the poop spells. I feed him Iams. I have given him chicken/rice, pepto, imodium. Poor thing wants to eat and eat but I wont let him because of the horrible poop

Thanks for submitting your question regarding Marmaduke. He needs to see his veterinarian again. Fecal testing will be performed. If it was done on his first visit, it may be repeated or additional tests recommended. Depending on his results, medication will likely be prescribed. A diet change to a prescription low fat diet may be beneficial as well. I typically do not recommend extended fasting on puppies as is common in adults with diarrhea. He is growing and needs to eat. I hope this information helps!
