Goldfish got stuck in filter, now lethargic. Is he sick or in shock?

Hi! So Cheeto got stuck in the filter yesterday. His dorsal fin is partially ripped. For about 12 hours he has been lying at the bottom of the tank. Only once he swam to the surface for food. My other goldfish keeps checking him out. Is he sick or just in shock? Should I remove him from the tank so he doesn't get my other fish sick? Please help!!!! Pet's info: Fish | Gold Fish

Thanks for reaching out about Cheeto. This is probably not something contagious so separation is probably not needed. But. he probably should see a veterinarian. The dorsal fin should probably re-grow. check and keep water quality optimal, including pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. If he continues to be lethargic, a veterinary visit is recommended. To reduce stress, you can add 1 T of aquarium salt per each 10 gallons of water, for three consecutive days. This salt concentration often decreases the osmotic load on the kidneys and gills.
