Why is my young cockatiel's beak dark and nostril skin peeling?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male

My young cockatiel, (under 8months) seems fine but this morning/last night the tip of his beak turned darkish and it looks like the first layer is off of the tip. Around 8 hours later I came home and saw the skin on his nostrils look like they fell off or he itched them to hard. It's right under his nostril holes

Thanks for reaching out about Bokuto. It would be worrisome about a trauma to the beak, either caught on something or another animal. It still eating well and acting well, observation is recommended. Observe ability to eat hard items, such as seed. It acts sick or lesions increasing in size, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
