How does different music affect my dog's behavior? Guitar vs. violin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 70 lbs

hi my question was not about my dogs health it was actually about a science project that i have to do but it does have to do with my dog and my teacher said I need a source of research. Do you think that my dog's reaction wil be different depending on what kind of music that I play Guitar or Violin? Yes or No and Why? Could you please answer today because it is due tomorrow. Thank you. :-) Ps. My dog is a German Shepherd Mix.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I definitely think Dakoda's reaction will be different based on the music you play! Dogs hear just like we do (actually more sensitively than we do), so louder, more aggressive music may excite them more, whereas softer, more soothing music may cause them to be more relaxed. Dog's actions and emotions are very similar to humans, so it is not wrong to think about how a human would react to these types of music and apply that information to dogs. I hope this is helpful!
