My 11-year-old toy poodle breathes slow while resting. Is it normal?

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | unspayed | 11 years and 9 months old | 6 lbs

Hello. I noticed that my dog, molly is breathing very slow. I counted, and she is only breathing 10 times per minute. She is a toy poodle and is around 11 or 12 years old. She was resting but not sleeping at the time when i counted. Is this normal and healthy or should I contact my veterinarian? Thank you so much.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That rate doesn't sound abnormal if she was resting. If the respiratory rate is high when she is resting (greater than 30 breaths per minute), that would be cause for concern. Also, make sure her gum color is nice and pink. If not, I would have a veterinarian take a look and listen to her. Good luck and kisses to Molly!
