How to treat painful flea dermatitis on my outdoor cat's back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

Pepè has been diagnosed with flea dermatitis on his back. Is there any remedies to help cure his pain on his back as it is very sore to the touch for him. He gets flea medicine every 28 days which the vet recommend but it hasn't gone down. He is also a majority outside cat due to a life as a stray beforehand so prefers to spend time outside, so it is difficult to control which cats etc he is in contact with.

I would talk with the veterinarian to see if he has a skin infection. He may need antibiotics to help also. The other thing you can talk to your vet about is a steroid injection (if he is healthy enough) to help with the itch Pepe is experiencing.
