My adopted dog has red, bald spots. Could it be ringworm or mites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 11 months and 5 days old

Hi there. we adopted a dog last week and he already had a bald patch by his eye that the rescue dismissed as being caught in the kennel. within 3 days of being in our house, two red prominent bald spots appeared .he was returned to the shelter for treatment and he is still there now . the existing one by his eye has no flared up also. since being there two more have come up. one more on his cheek and his leg. they have done tests to see if it is ringworm but they aren't back yet .any ideas

Poor pup! Ringworm or mites are the two most likely suspects. Check to see if they have tested for mites yet. The good news is that both are treatable! I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions!
