Why did my parakeet die suddenly with balance issues and white poop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | 1 year and 11 months old

My parakeet recently died. Luna was asleep for the most part of the day. She was like this for a week. She would fight with her partner and isolated herself. When she died, she couldn't keep her balance and laid on her back on my hand. She then got up quickly, twitched, and fell down dead. I want to know why she died. Her poop was just white water. It was rarely solid.

I'm sorry that Luna has passed away. Unfortunately, birds are very good at hiding illnesses or injuries until they are very ill and it is nearly too late, and without an exam, it would be impossible to tell what caused her passing. Illness, injury, parasites, etc, could all be potential causes. If your other bird is also acting ill, it would be best to bring him into a vet ASAP so he can be examined and treated for anything. If you're having trouble coping with the loss of Luna, checking out places such as The Rainbow Bridge can help you connect with other pet owners, create a pet memorial, and more in your time of need.
