My dog ate moldy food from the trash. When should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 6 years old | 7 lbs

My 7 lb Yorkie mix got into a trash bag I mistakenly left out. There was Mac and cheese that had molded inside and she got into it and ate it while I was at work. She threw up a few times but has stopped since the last heave that finished with just liquid. She is visibly upset and just wants to lay down but can’t get comfortable it seems. She did drink water after throwing up but should I be concerned right away or wait 24 hours in order to observe her?

If Maley is still acting ill, can't settle, or seems very painful or tender in her abdomen, I would be concerned about something such as pancreatitis or continued illness from getting into the trash. I would bring her into your vet or an ER clinic, especially if she is still showing signs of not feeling well, is painful, bloated, or experiencing a lot of discomfort.
