Can I leave my 4-week-old kitten alone overnight without feeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, is it okay to leave a 4 weeks old kitten alone overnight? She doesn't have her mom and any littermates, I usually feed her every 3-4 hours but I don't think I can always do the same at night. How long can I leave her? Is it okay if I feed her at 8pm and leave her alone till 5-6am? Thank you very much.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If she has open eyes, most of her kitten teeth, can walk, and is otherwise doing well, you can actually start leaving some kitten food out for her. Canned kitten food mixed with formula/milk is a good place to start. You can leave this for her before bed and she can eat it throughout the night. I definitely recommend a maximum of 8 hours between feedings if she will not eat kitten food. Best wishes to you and your kitten!

Hello, congratulations on your new kitten. Ideally the kitten should be in the vicinity of where you are staying so that if the kitten needed anything you could attend to her. At 4 weeks old, you may actually leave some food and water overnight as long as you are new your kitten. She should be ok to be on her own overnight if she is near. Hope this helps and best of luck.
