Why is my senior chihuahua seizing? Causes after injury and tumors.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed

What could be the cause of seizing my 10 year old chihuahua? At the end of November, she was attacked by a coyote. She had to learn how to rewalk as she suffered spinal cord damage. She also has developed tumors on her stomach-I have an appointment with the vet to see if they’re cancerous. Then, she suffered a seizure. She eats well, walks well, uses the restroom well, and sleeps well. Could she have a brain tumor? Or are the seizures due to spinal injury? How do I reassure her during a seizure?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Seizures can occur due to many reasons that go from a toxicity, metabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases and even tumors including brain tumors. I highly recommend that you have Casey evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Diagnostics that will be recommended will include bloodwork and advanced imaging such as an MRI. They would also be able to start her on anti-seizure medications to try to avoid the onset of more seizures. Good luck and have a good day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
