My budgie was bitten by a cat. What to do immediately for the bite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female

My budgie was just attacked by my cat and has a good puncture wound to the chest. The feathers have been pulled out and there is bleeding. I have her in a box with a towel to keep her warm but I am worried about infection from a cat bite. What do I do?

You need to take your bird into a vet immediately to get checked out. There could be internal injuries from the bite, and the vet can treat her to prevent any infection from the bite. Please take her into a vet right away. Best of luck.

Poor Sweet Pea! It would be a good idea to have a vet take a look at the laceration to determine the extent of the injury. She might also need antibiotics to prevent an infection. Hope she recovers quickly!
