My dog is vomiting and has broken teeth. Are these issues linked?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Blue Heeler | Female | unspayed | 9 years and 9 months old | 52 lbs

My dog hasn’t eaten in 4 days and isn’t drinking very much either. she’s been vomiting intermittently. Tonight we found that she has some broken teeth and a missing tooth. Would the vomiting be related to the teeth issues? We just had her at the vet 3 weeks ago for well exam, shots, and they dewormed her, as well as started her on Bravecto.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. While the dental disease may be related to her not eating well, I do not expect that to be related to the vomiting. I recommend that you have Cowlee evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a good night! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
