My cat is sluggish with fever, sneezing, and goopy eye. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

What does my cat have? Symptoms include sluggish with a fever (told it was of unknown origin) that breaks after a day when given antibiotics. Sneezes uncontrollably, eye gets goopy. Symptoms go away after a couple days on antibiotics that is given through a dropper.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely due to an upper respiratory infection though something else like bilateral corneal ulcers or even dry eye are possible. This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Kilo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that based on an examination, that seems to be the issue, they will likely prescribe medications to make her feel better. Good luck and best wishes!
