Leopard gecko losing weight: What to do when vet meds don't work?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Gecko | 0.073 lbs

My leopard gecko is loosing weight and I can't figure out how to get his weight up. He is about 3 years old and his most recent weight was at 33g. I took him to a vet when I first noticed he was getting thin and they had me give him panacure and another medication to help get any potential infections out of his system. I was also giving him carnivore care but he would not keep that down and often times will rgurgitate it. He has been done with the medication for a week now but is worse.

Thanks for reaching out about Gilbert. First, a fecal examination should be performed to determine if any parasites are still a concern. There are multiple types of parasites, requiring a wide variety of medications. What are the possibilities of sand impaction? Continue to syringe feed but offer small amounts to allow digestion. A veterinary re-visit is needed. Good luck.
