My dog's cherry eye surgery failed, now his eye is cloudy and blue.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cane Corso | Male | 3 years and 4 months old | 130 lbs

My dog had his cherry eye tacked and I believe it failed because it looks worse than it did before and now he has a cloudy bluish grey tint on his eye. What’s happening?

From the photo, I see the third eyelid is more visible but I cannot see the gland itself so it may still be in place. The grey discoloration is concerning for a scratch or edema in the cornea and I recommend to have Dante seen by his veterinarian today if possible. You certainly don’t want anything else to effect that eye! Also make sure Dante is wearing an Elizabethan collar as it will help protect the eye from rubbing or other damage. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions!
