Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 10 years and 10 months old | 7 lbs

Hi Toby has had most of his teeth removed when he was younger, he has energy Whalen he wants to play and doesn’t act sick. I was wondering if you think this tooth is saveable and if not what to do with it

Hello, thank you for your question about Toby. Based on the photos that you have provided I would be concerned that Toby may need to have this tooth removed. A large portion of the tooth is visible, suggestive of recession of the gum (which is common with severe dental disease). I would also be slightly concerned that the gum may be lifted away from the tooth leading to food/bacteria build up under the gum line. To evaluate fully if this tooth should be removed a veterinarian would need to perform an oral examination. They can then discuss if an additional dental procedure is needed. Hope this helps, good luck!
