My dog limps, clicks after resting. Can glucosamine help joints?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 150 lbs

In November our Great Dane fell and was diagnosed with a soft tissue bruise. She is much better, however, if she lays down for an extended period of time she will limp when she gets up and there is a clicking sound. Would Glucosamine help?

Hello, thank you for your question about Lulu. Depending on which leg was affected or if the sound can be localized one specific limb this could be indicative of underlying orthopedic disease/arthritis. Diagnosis of arthritis requires an examination and potentially x-rays of affected limbs. You could try starting Lulu on glucosamine to see if this increases her level of comfort. If the limping continues or progresses and the sound does not go away I would recommend having Lulu evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!
