Struvite stones gone. Does my cat need to stay on prescription food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Turkish Van | Female | spayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 7.05 lbs

My cat was diagnosed with struvite stones about 3 months ago. After putting her on struvite food diet, the stones seem to have dissolved and the ultrasound confirms that her bladder doesn’t have any more stones. Do I keep her on this medicinal struvite diet (does it have any side effects), if not, what should I feed her? Thank you.

Your kitty should be on this food for the rest of her life as the stones will return otherwise. It is expensive food, but surgery is a lot more extensive and struvite crystals are seriously painful. This diet is healthy for your kitty.
