Why does my dog's backside smell like poop, even after bathing him?

Question

Have noticed my 12 year old heeler's backside smells like feces. Can smell him from several feet away. Never noticed this before. bathed and examined him and it hasn't helped. Can see nothing unusual with his anus. What could cause this? Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | neutered | 12 years and 8 months old | 54 lbs

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to see any detail in the picture. However, it does look like there is an infectious process going on. This may be in the skin per se or possibly in the anal sac region. I would recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to diagnose it so that it can be treated. Best of luck!
