My dog won't go to the bathroom in the rain. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

It has been raining all day and although I take my dog out numerous times, she has not gone to the bathroom since last evening. Her behaviors have not changed today other than she has not eaten or drank a whole lot but I think that is because she hasn't gone to the bathroom. Should I be concerned?

It isn't good for a pet to hold their bladder long. I would recommend taking her out on a short walk with an umbrella to cover most of the rain droplets to see if this increased activity will stimulate her to go. Most pets can't resist going if they are physically stimulated in this manner. I hope that this does the trick for your pet Hershey! Eventually she will have to go, despite the rain. And if she is otherwise still energetic. not vomiting, and eating or drinking a little, I would not be worried about a medical condition here. Best wishes with your pet Hershey moving forward. Take care!
