Worried: Will my kitten be lonely as the only cat after moving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 26 days old | 3 lbs

Hey! I have a three months old kitten which has been living with his sister since they were born. Now they're living in a house with two more adult cats. The kitten plays with them all the time and seems very happy around them. But the problem is that I will have to move in five months to a place without any other cats. It will be only me and a few other people. My question is if it's going to affect the kitten or not. I'm worried if he won't be too lonely, "homesick" and sick. Thank you!

Some cats do like company and others do just fine as the only cat. They are all different just like humans. When you move, make sure Tim gets lots of attention and play time. Provide him with climbing opportunities like a tall cat tree or shelves. There will be an adjustment period that may last a few weeks as Tim gets use to his new living situation. If he seems lonely beyond this, then maybe look at getting him another playmate. It’s ok to see how he adjusts and many of them do just fine. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
