My dog's broken nail is popped up. What should I do to help it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 40 lbs

I need advice for a broken nail. Four days in and seems to be better but now her nail is popped up. Her attitude and energy are normal as can be. She was only hurting the first and second day. But now it’s popped up. I don’t know if I should pull it or let it continue to do it on it’s own. It’s been staying clean. Just went outside so about to do another paw soak in water and baby shampoo. Neosporin has been on it. Hasn’t looked like this until today. Help please!

You can pull it off if you would like but it will probably either fall off on it's own or she will chew it off. You can continue treating it like you have been however, the baby shampoo is not really the best thing to use. You are better off soaking it in dilute betadine solution.
