My cat's back gums are dark. Is this a sign of a dental problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | 5 months and 2 days old

Is there something wrong with my cat’s gums? The back area seems too dark, she is not displaying any other problematic symptoms, nothing in her behaviour changed, I only noticed the gums when I was randomly checking her.

The pictures are a little blurry. With what I see in the pictures her gums look normal with a small amount of gingivitis. I would recommend brushing her teeth with a cat approved toothpaste daily to help her gums. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
