My cat has urinary blockage, still bleeding. Should I transfer vets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 9.24 lbs

My persian cat had urinary blockage and we brought him to the vet. Found out there were crystals and no big stones seen from the x-ray. They inserted catheter since his bladder was full. There were blood in the urine. And today is his third day in the hospital. And every morning my vet would update me via text that she has forced fed my cat and there are still blood flowing. It only happens every morning and yesterday after they moved him for an x-ray. Should i transfer to another vet? Idk what

If you are not comfortable with the care your veterinarian is providing then moving him to another veterinarian wouldn't be a bad idea. Although, leaving a catheter in for a few days is very important and there may be blood for a little since there was so much inflammation in the bladder. You just have to be comfortable and trust your veterinarian. If you are not and do not then I would recommend transferring the case to someone else. Without knowing everything the veterinarian is doing it is difficult to say if I would provide other care. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Your cat is still blocked and must be taken back to the vet urgently, he will die very soon if he is not unblocked. the vet MUST keep the catheter in the urinary tract for at least 2 days. your vet also needs to treat him with other medications (this condition occurs due to stress and NOT because of an infection - meaning antibiotics won't help much). you need to ask your vet to also put him on medications that will relax the bladder (Valium, Phenoxibenzamine/Prazosin) and also on pain killers (Metacam/buprenorphine). if you take him in right now he still may have a chance to survive but his condition is critical.
