My dog ate roach tablets and is throwing up. Does he need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 50 lbs

I have a dog which is approximately 50 lbs. He just ingested at least 1, possibly 2 harris roach tablets. I immediately administered 25ml of hydrogen peroxide. Approximately 4 minutes later he vomited approximately 1 cup +/- of white foam. He continues to heave. This all happened about 10 minutes ago. It is currently 7:33 PM CST. Do I need to take him to a veterinarian or simply monitor his input/output and behavior?

Being that the packaging states the active ingredient as boric acid he will likely be fine. It doesn't sound like he ingested enough to be toxic however, he could have some gastrointestinal upset for the next few days. I suggest you feed him some bland food for 2-3 days. That being said, we always suggest a vet examine your pet if they have ingested any type of poison. It is difficult for us to say much over the internet without having examined the pet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
