My 2-year-old hamster has a large, smelly tumor. What can I do?

My daughter hamster is 2 years old in March . Has a large lump bigger than 50 pence and looks lots of funny colours . And parts of the lump look open . And it smells . Took the hamster too the vet a week ago and she Said it was A Tumour . And if she gets worse they can put her too sleep ! Not sure what too do ?

Hello. Unfortunately, cancer in a 2 year old hamster is very common. If it smells , it means the tumor has probably outgrown its blood supply & the tissues are beginning to die. Unless you have the tumor removed, the kindest thing to do is euthanize Poppy. This will not get better on its own & will just continue to fester & smell worse. Poisons will get into her system making her sicker & sicker. I am so sorry, but this is a common thing to happen with hamsters. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
