My cat has a cheek abscess with pus and blood. Can I treat it at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 15 lbs

We have a male un-neutered cat that comes around every couple of months, meowing loudly. We assumed he has a home. At 1:30am,and 3°f he came around meowing, so I let him in. He's been hanging out here and there, but I think he goes back home. I discovered a nasty abscess above his cheek. Squeezed it, and now a couple of days later a bunch of puss came out, then liquid blood. I'm concerned for him and am trying to heal it by squeezing it, then neosporin. Any other suggestions for home treatment.

There is no home treatment for this, he needs oral antibiotics, and the abscess needs to be drained and flushed. Try to find Big Boy's owners so they can take him into the vet. If he doesn't have owners, I would take him in yourself. Best of luck.
