My ferret is sick with diarrhea and not eating. Can I care for her at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Female | spayed | 5 lbs

My 8-year-old ferret stopped eating a week ago. She is losing weight, very lethargic, has watery eyes, runny nose, and diarrhea. How can I take care of her at home? No vets/hospitals in my area will see her because she is considered an 'exotic' pet.

I found three vets less than 1/2 hour from the zip code you provided that see exotic pets. ( https://mlahvet.com/avian-exotic-fish-medicine/ ) ( https://www.veterinarianssouthjersey.com/ ) ( http://www.animalandbirdvet.com/ ) You need to get Jezebel to a vet. You cannot let her just waste away at home. She sounds very sick and is suffering. Not everything can be fixed at home. She is not young so there are many things that could be wrong with her. You need to get a diagnosis so you can know how best to treat her. Please get her to a vet. I know you are worried about her and don't want her to suffer. Best wishes.
