My dog is panting and whining after C-section. Is she in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Female | 2 years and 4 months old | 50 lbs

Hi my dog had her c-section on Monday 21, 2019 it's been 5 days & there are times she would be panting & whining. I'm not sure if she's overwhelmed with her puppies or just bored being in the room all day. She eats drinks alot of water & she has been using the restroom. Also the day after her surgery we took her home she dig into the trash & ate red plastic that goes around the baloney. I don't if that might of affect that from her c-section.

She is likely panting from pain. Panting is one of the main indicators of pain. I suggest you call your vet and ask about pain medication. If she is already on some, they may need to adjust the dose. They may not have given any due to the puppies nursing (some pain medications are passed in the milk) but some are pain medications that are safe to use. Please call them and ask about this. I don't think the bologna plastic has anything to do with it if I am understanding you correctly (the red peel on the outside of the meat). That should not be harmful. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
