My cat won't take liquid Metamucil. Can I give him capsules?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

Vet said to give cat 1tsp metamucil in 4oz water. He won't eat or drink it. I have capsules. Can I just pill him, one of them? Or is it imperative it's mixed with water?

It should be fine to give the capsule but you should chase it with water in a syringe to prevent irritation to the esophagus. It’s difficult to say for sure but it looks like 1 capsule would not be equal to a tsp - you should make sure you are giving enough. I often recommend mixing it in a small amount of canned food.
