My Brazilian rainbow boa has white blisters. Is it an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Brazilian rainbow boa. 5 months old. Eating regularly. Humidity maintained above 85 percent. The snake has developed white blisters on its back and head. One looks substantial, the other looks to have just started. I've had the snake for 5 weeks and she did her first shed 3 days ago. It came off in one piece and looked fine to me. She got a new water bowl 7 days ago and has taken to hiding under it. I can't afford a vet for another 6 days but I've read she needs immediate care. Please help :(

Thanks for reaching out about Luna and including photos. The white raised lesions are probably infections (whether bacterial or fungal, needs to be determined). Applying some topical antibiotic cream might help a little until a veterinary visit can be scheduled. Topical don't penetrate very deep so systemic antibiotics are preferred. Check underside of new water bowl for rough edges that could have caused dermal abrasions, allowing the secondary infections. Systemic illness is also possible but would expect lesions not to be limited to dorsal surface. Good luck.
