My cat was accidentally kicked in the stomach and vomited. Is he okay?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years old | 21 lbs

This morning I was running late for work - work ended up being canceled - and I was making food. My 10 year old cat was running around between my feet, I turned quickly to race to the microwave and kicked him in the stomach hard enough to see him left and move back slightly, which horrified me! He threw up a lot of food, but no blood or anything else and he seems to be acting fine now, it has been two hours. Will he be okay? I feel awful and gave him lots of love and he is purring, but I worry.

Oh no. Poor guy. It was an accident for sure and I know you feel bad about this. However, if is acting normal now and purring and not hiding, those are good signs. It sounds like the trauma of the kick stimulated his nerves in his stomach, which caused him to vomit. However, typically a kick isn't hard enough to cause permanent organ damage.Just keep an eye on his belly to ensure there are no blood patches anywhere that would indicate some bleeding. As long as he seems fine and there is no continued vomiting or refusal of food after about 2-6 hours, he should recover well. : ) I hope things continue to go well for your pet Cinder and thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Take care.
