Why is my dog's painful butt rash not getting better with treatment?

Hello doctor Jasper is having rashes on his butthole and he is very uncomfortable because of which I have been taking him to the vet and he has told me to wash the region after he poops and has prescribed some medicine There is no improvement and it's been a week already Please tell me what I should do? Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jasper. You may consider seeing his veterinarian again or seeking a second opinion regarding his skin. The lesions look severe. He could have a food allergy. While this could affect all of his skin, the lips and anus are typically affected. There is also a condition known as perianal fistulas. This requires prompt treatment with medication to suppress the immune system. He could also have an condition where the body attacks it's own skin cells. This would be accompanied by skin lesions in other places as well. He may require skin biopsies or an exam under anesthesia to reach a diagnosis. Good luck!
