What do Erythromycin, Baytril, Famciclovir treat for my cat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 months and 21 days old | 5 lbs

Vet prescribed Erythromycin Opthalmic, Baytril Otic, and Famciclovir for my cats. Bean had swollen lymph nodes behind his ear, and he’s instructed to have the baytril otic and famciclovir. Mocha(Felv+) has watery eyes and is instructed to have erythromycin opthalmic and famciclovir. What would these be treating? I was not informed, they were checked on at the humane society by a vet and I had to pick the prescriptions up from the office.

Hello. It sounds like Bean has an ear infection so the Baytril Otic would be used for that. Famciclovir is an anti viral medication generally used to treat feline herpes virus, a very common upper respiratory infection in cats. The Erythromycin Ophthalmic is an antibiotic for the eyes, so the vet is being very through in treating your kitties. Hopefully, everyone will be feeling better soon.
