Cat's hair thinning in spots after diet. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 11 lbs

Lately my one cats hair has been thinning and in some spots it almost feels like it’s been shaved and it’s very short. I did change their diet and incorporate more fish products so I thought maybe that might be a problem and I took away the fish products, I am going on week three without fish in their diet and it seems to slowly be getting better but I still feel some areas that feel very short. Other cat is fine, how long should I wait before to see if the hair grows back before a vet visit?

I would give it another couple weeks as long as the skin does not appear irritated and Coco is not itchy or bothered. If she appears bothered or like its getting worse, I recommend to have her seen. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
