My dog ate a chicken bone from the trash. What are the risks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 14 lbs

My 14 pound pure Pomeranian ate half a chicken bone from the trash and I’m not sure what to do! Attached is what’s left of the bone to give u an estimate of how much she ate I know the ends are mostly cartilage which is good but I’m still worried.

Oh, that was naughty that Lily ate the chicken bone. Do NOT induce vomiting. You will have to keep an eye on her. This may pass or it may cause an obstruction. If she starts vomiting, has diarrhea, there is blood in her feces, becomes anorexic, and/or becomes lethargy, then you need to take her into a vet immediately. I hope this helps.

That wasn't good Precious got into the trash! Keep an eye out for vomiting, diarrhea, blood in her poop, anorexia, or lethargy. If you see any of those signs, have her seen by a vet right away. It may take a couple of days for signs to show, but she may be fine. I hope this helps!
