My rescue dog is very clingy and barks if not in my bedroom. Normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Female | 3 years and 2 months old | 13 lbs

I’ve had my dog for 3 months now. Before us she was with 5 other owners & shes only 3. She has always been VERY clingy but it’s becoming very obnoxious. Everywhere I go she follows me. Anytime I sit on the couch she has to sit right on my chest so that our noses are basically touching. She always has to be touching me.She doesn’t like sleeping outside of our bedroom or she’ll start barking until we give in. Is this normal behavior since she’s had so many owners & now feels comfortable?

Hello. Poor Nellie. It sounds like she is just craving some stability in her life & she is doing her best to make sure you will always be her person. She may eventually relax, only time will tell. I think I would start her on one of the natural calming products available over the counter. They too take time to work, but I like Zylkene. Give it a try & thanks for giving Nellie another chance at a forever home & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
