Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 5 years old | 95 lbs
Hi! I have a 4 year old mix, he’s 95 pounds but we don’t know what kind of mix he is. He’s been having a skin issue over the last few months. Our vet said maybe it was an allergic reaction to something he’d came in contact with, and gave multiple meds for a month. It didn’t help. The sores are concentrated on his under belly. Usually round, a small puss pocket forms in the middle of this round looking sore that eventually scans over. He has anywhere from 2-8 of them at a time.

Poor Loki! There are four main things that will cause persistent skin issues. They are flea allergy, environmental allergy, food allergy and hypothyroidism. They are each ruled out differently. It sounds like your doctor was suspecting an environmental allergy but I can’t be sure based upon the information. I would recommend testing his thyroid and if that’s not it, put him on a food trial. Environmental allergy is not ruled out yet but it is the most difficult to figure out. Also make sure he is on a good flea prevention. I recommend Simparica or Nexgard. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
